Established in 1996, KyUAS is the well-known institution of higher education in Finland, especially Kymenlaakso region. The University, which is based in 3 campuses: Kasarminmäki in Kouvola, Jylppy and Metsola in Kotka, has an enrollment of approximately 4,335 degree candidates, containing undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. KyUAS confirmed its position as a leading university, with an outstanding performance in education and research activities. By virtue of providing professionals for region, KyUAS has long been promoting breakthrough changes in the industrial structure and the growth of innovative industries and competitiveness in Kymenlaakso region. Besides, KyUAS remains close relationships with many international partners - KyUAS has established a global network with over 100 institutions in Europe, America, the Baltic countries, Russia, and Asia.

There are approximately 200 teaching staffs employed at KyUAS, of which 195 full-time lecturers including 25 principle lecturers, around 140 senior lectures and 30 lecturers. Proudly speaking, KyUAS has high-educated staffs, for example, about 20 of full-time teachers holds a doctoral or licentiate degree and 145 teaching staffs have Master Degree. KyUAS has been selected as the Centre of Excellence in University of Applied Sciences education for 2010 to 2012 by the Finnish Higher Education Evalution Council (FINHEEC), remarkably.

Teachers in KyUAS are very knowledgable and friendly, having many years of working and teaching experiences in prestigious companines and schools in over the world. Inevitably, students are always interested in comfortable atmosphere in every classes. KyUAS's teachers usually ignite students' curiosity to support them study what interests them, to help them realize their strengths and weaknesses and accumulate necessary skills that they could pursue their passion, and most vitally to give them the love of study.

If you studied in KyUAS, spent hours in KyUAS's library, or took classes in one of the other beautiful buildings on our campus, you know firsthand that the Kasarminmaki can inspire your imagination and connect people across generations. KyUAS has concentrated its attention on a number of key projects designed to foster an engaging environment and high-technology.
Specifically, there are different kind of classrooms that fit different purposes of class. Almost room has been fully equipped with projectors and smart-board, and strong computers. The computers have Windows 7 installed on them. Software applications installed on each computer include: Microsoft Office, , Adobe Reader, Komodo HTML Editor, IE9, Firefox, Java, Photoshop, and other famous design softwares, and all link to printers.

Because studying abroad is an invaluable addition to your education, we offer generous funding to help make opportunities accessible to you. Your need-based financial aid travels with you for your study abroad program during the academic year. By dint of 130 contracts with partner institutes in over 20 countries, students have very wide range of University selection. We have been sending, and also receiving, hundreds of students during the years within the framework of EU’s Socrates / Erasmus student exchange programme. You will be considered as one-of-the-own-students with the rights and benefits offered for local students. Through the network we can also help the student to find out about training places.
Graduates who get better jobs recognize that employers not only check their academic record to verify learning potential, but also their relevant work experience and appropriate skills. Internships allow students to acquire the experience and skills essential to acquiring a satisfying job upon graduation. By virtue of training, students gain valuable hands-on work experience,develop marketable job skills which are transferable to other jobs, integrate and complement academic studies with the on-the-job professional level experience, examine, explore and clarify career goals and options, and improve interpersonal skills such as confidence, maturity, decision making, as well as develop references and professional contacts which may lead to future job offers. Notably, student can find work placement by themselves; however, lecturers are very helpful in supporting students to find an internship.

Patteri Entrepreneurship Society is a student-run organisation of Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences in Kouvola and Kotka, Finland. Our mission is to bring entrepreneurial spirit to the university’s community, to encourage students develop their own ideas into profitable business and give them an opportunity to increase their business and employability skills outside of classroom. PatteriES is there for students who are fascinated by what they can accomplish in life, who want to take action steps towards fulfilling their potential and who want to make their dreams come true by engaging in entrepreneurial activities. We provide mentorship and support for our student’s entrepreneurial endeavours and create a positive business environment within the ecosystem of KyUAS by organising various entrepreneurship events and networking with partner companies and organisations. We are a young, innovative and open community of enthusiastic students who want to change the world through entrepreneurship.
Besides, it is absolutely convenient for students to get valuable advices from business consultants of KOUVOLA INNOVATION company located in Karsaminmaki campus - next to the library building. The experts will advise you on the business environment in Finland, things to note, the required procedures to establish a business. Kinno company is also a place that will help you file the needed paperwork related to the business license.
